Inbev has hired a handful of Washington lobbying firms as part of its ambitions to acquire Anheuser-Busch, the largest US brewer, breakingviews has learned.

Inbev has retained the Breaux Lott Leadership Group, run by the former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott and former Democratic senator John Breaux; Johnson, Madigan, Peck, Boland & Stewart; and the Glover Park Group.

Anheuser, brewer of Budweiser, works with a variety of K-Street firms including Timmons and Co.; Van Scoyoc; the St. Louis law firm Bryan Cave; Public Strategies, Hobbs Group and Akin Gump.

Political temperatures are rising over the Brazilian-Belgian brewer’s taste for Bud. Inbev has hired heavyweight Washington lobbyists, including former Senate majority leader Trent Lott, in anticipation of a fight. But a battle much beyond St Louis could damage US markets.
