Nokia and Qualcomm have settled their patent disputes. The Finnish handset company will license the US tech company’s patents for 15 years, pay an undisclosed up-front amount and lower royalty per phone than is currently paid. The royalty rate has not been disclosed. Nokia has also agreed not to use any of its patents directly against Qualcomm. The agreement covers both current technologies such as WCDMA and “fourth generation” wireless technologies such as LTE. Qualcomm said the agreement should add 20 cents to 28 cents per share in earnings for fiscal 2009.
