The US Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the recruiting practices of a number of companies located around the San Francisco Bay Area, including technology firms Apple, Google, Intel and Yahoo and biotechnology company Genentech, among others.

The investigation specifically seeks to identify whether the companies violate antitrust law by establishing agreements not to recruit each others’ employees, according to the New York Times, which cited sources briefed on the investigation.

The recent probe into the hiring practices of tech heavies like Apple, Google and Yahoo suggests as much. The place is cliquey. But the competition for talent is fierce. This is more likely shot off the bow from competition authorities.
