Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is visiting Washington from November 22 to 25; President Obama is hosting a state dinner - his first - for Singh at the White House on November 24.

China is the second largest trading partner of the U.S. after Canada. The U.S. exported $47 billion to China and imported $213 billion from China in the nine months to September 2009. Dollar trade value was down 15 percent from the previous year.

India is the 13th largest trading partner of the U.S., which exported $12.5 billion to India and imported $15.7 billion from India in the nine months to September 2009. Dollar trade value was down 16% from the previous year.

Foreign direct investment in India totalled $15.3 billion in the first nine moths of 2009, compared with $27.3 billion in 2008. Foreign direct investment in China totalled $92.4 billion in 2008.
