The S&P/Case-Shiller 20-city home price index stood at 147.33 (January 2000=100) in the three months ending May 2010, up 4.6 percent from the previous year. House prices were up 18.3 percent year-on-year in San Francisco, 12.5 percent in San Diego and 11.6 percent in Minneapolis; they were down 6.4 percent in Las Vegas. Washington house prices are currently 82.6 percent above their 2000 level and Los Angeles house prices up 76.1 percent since 2000, while Detroit house prices have fallen 30.9 percent since 2000.

Separately, the Conference Board Index of Consumer Confidence fell from 54.3 to 50.4 in July, the lowest level since February 2010.
