El País and Cinco Días to publish breakingviews columns
03 Mar 2008
London/Madrid, March 3, 2008
Starting March 10th, 2008, leading Spanish daily El País will offer its readers a new breakingviews.com column in the financial supplement of its Sunday edition. A breakingviews.com column will also appear daily in Cinco Días, the Spanish daily financial newspaper, from March 3rd.
The new columns will contain a selection of breakingviews.com’s comments in Spanish, picked by El País and Cinco Días´ editorial teams for their relevance and originality.
Simultaneously, Fiona Maharg-Bravo, a breakingviews.com correspondent, has relocated to Madrid to spearhead its coverage of Spanish capital markets. Before she joined breakingviews.com, Ms Maharg-Bravo was a Nico Colchester fellow at the Financial Times. She started her career in investment banking at JP Morgan and later moved to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
breakingviews.com, the leading global online financial commentary website, has been chosen by El País and Cinco Días for its punchy and independent approach. breakingviews.com’s column will complement both publications, which are known for their analytical and agenda-setting approach to economics and business.
Created in 1999, breakingviews.com has established a presence in Europe, the US and Asia. Its website provides members of the global financial elite with agenda-setting insights. It also has partnerships with 10 newspapers worldwide including the Wall Street Journal, the Wall Street Journal Europe, Germany’s Handelsblatt and France's Le Monde. Through these, it reaches more than four million readers daily.
"I am delighted by this partnership with El País and Cinco Días and by the opening of our Madrid bureau,” said Hugo Dixon, breakingviews.com’s editor-in-chief. "Spanish companies have become major players in the global economy. The time is right to apply our unique brand of analytical commentary to this important market.’
