Breakingviews publishes first book on Lehman’s collapse

London/New York, 11 November, 2008

Breakingviews.com has today published the first book on the collapse of Lehman Brothers – “Right to the Brink: How Lehman almost caused the global financial system to collapse”. This collection of breakingviews’ unrevised, real-time views provides a fast-paced account of events from mid-September when Lehman went bust to mid-October when governments rushed to the rescue.

Five week long white knuckle ride
Hugo Dixon, Editor in Chief of breakingviews, said: “The five weeks from September 13 2008 will go down as one of the most dramatic periods in financial history.

“The crisis was like the Lernaean Hydra, the multi-headed monster Heracles had to defeat as one of his 12 labours. Every time he cut off one of the hydra’s ugly heads, two more sprouted in its place. Similarly, no sooner had the authorities thought they had solved one bank’s problems than several more emerged.

“The financial system very nearly collapsed. It was only after governments rode to the rescue that the industry breathed a collective sigh of relief. Even now, although the worst of the banking crisis is over, the economic crisis has barely begun. This book will be an invaluable way for readers to make sense of a crisis which is still very live.”

Right to the Brink, which is sponsored by Finsbury, can be purchased online at http://www.breakingviews.com/brinkbook.aspx for $20 or £15 plus postage.
