Breakingviews goes to the Gulf

Abu Dhabi, April 16

On April 17th, 2008, the breakingviews column will appear in the inaugural edition of The National, the new daily Abu Dhabi-based newspaper that aims to create an influential voice for the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

The columns will contain a selection of breakingviews.com's agenda-setting commentary on the top financial events around the globe, selected by The National's editorial staff for their relevance and originality to its Gulf-based readership.

Created in 1999, breakingviews.com has established a presence in Europe, the US and Asia. Its website provides members of the global financial elite with valuable insights. It also has partnerships with newspapers worldwide including the Wall Street Journal, Germany's Handelsblatt, France's Le Monde, Spain's El Pais and India’s Mint. Through these, it reaches more than four million readers daily.

"Our partnership with The National is a great step forward in the global expansion of the breakingviews.com brand," said Hugo Dixon, breakingviews.com's editor-in-chief. "The National's launch indicates the vibrancy and importance of the Gulf as a regional financial centre and we are delighted to play a role in its success."

The National is the United Arab Emirates' first national newspaper. Staffed with nearly 200 journalists within the country and around the world, the newspaper and accompanying web site is an authoritative voice on domestic and foreign news, as well as developments in business and economics in the fast-growing Middle East region.

"We're thrilled to offer breakingviews.com's penetrating analysis and insight to our readers from launch," said Martin Newland, editor in chief of The National. "Breakingviews.com’s presence, and relevance, on our pages underscores the growing economic and financial integration the region is experiencing with the global economy."
