Breakingviews.com opens Paris bureau

London and Paris (September 6, 2006) – breakingviews.com, the leading international financial commentary publication, has expanded its coverage of European markets and companies with the recruitment of Pierre Briançon as Paris correspondent.

Briançon, most recently Paris bureau chief of Dow Jones Newswires, has over 25 years of experience as a financial journalist in Paris, Washington and Moscow.

“France is going through a transition from a controlled to a more market-orientated economy. At this critical juncture in the country’s history, we are delighted to have such a high calibre correspondent to lead our coverage of French finance and business as well as being our ambassador in Paris,” said Hugo Dixon, editor and chairman of breakingviews.com.

“I’m excited to join breakingviews.com, which has consistently been at the cutting edge of high-quality financial journalism. Its punchy, market-orientated commentary is likely to be in increasing demand in France in the coming months and years”, Briançon said.

In his career, Briançon has been: business editor of Libération as well as its Moscow and Washington correspondents; deputy editor of L’Expansion; and chief executive and editor of B-toB Avenue, an information website. He was Dow Jones Newswires Paris Bureau Chief from 2003-2006. He is also the author of Messier Story (2002), on the fall of Vivendi’s former chief executive, and Héritiers du désastre (1992) on the collapse of the Soviet Union.
