Blackberry Tips

Blackberries are of two types: BES Blackberries and Internet Blackberries

The two types of Blackberries behave very differently, but we have two fixes (one for each type) so that both types of Blackberries should now work a lot better.

BES Blackberries are typically provided by your company, and are usually supplied pre-configured to receive your email.

Internet Blackberries are normally bought by you from a mobile phone stores, and usually you will have had to configure them to receive your email.

1. For BES Blackberries

  • You may need to change one setting on your Blackberry, so that your access to the Web happens through your company, rather than through your mobile-phone provider.
  • From the main menu of your Blackberry, choose Settings (the icon is normally a screwdriver next to a mobile phone).
  • If you have an Advanced Options menu option, choose that. If not, just proceed to the next step (different models have different menu layouts)
  • Choose the Browser menu option
  • Change the Default Browser Configuration so that it is Blackberry Browser.
  • Now, when you next click a link from a Breakingviews daily email, you may have to log in once, but thereafter the Breakingviews site should remember your login. This will only happen if you make the change above. If the setting (in point 4 above) is left as services, your Blackberry will forget who it is and likely force you to log in each time.

2. For Internet Blackberries

  • Web-browsing on Internet blackberries does not work nearly as well as on BES blackberries. However, we have developed a new technique that should mean that most users of Internet Blackberries do not have to log in each time.
  • For Internet Blackberries, please log in to Breakingviews once in the normal way. I.E click a link in one of our emails, ideally on a story that says “ready now”. This lets us associate your login with the Blackberry that you are using.

Please try these things if you can. With so many combinations of Blackberry models, networks, and computer server types, issues with the Breakingviews service are inevitable. As long as we know about them, we can try to fix them. So, if you continue to experience any kind of problem we really want to know.
