The columnist will be Breakingviews’ lead European commentator on investment banking. The reshaping of the industry to cope with turbulent markets, new regulation and increased public scrutiny is a core subject for our readers, many of whom work in investment banks. With unparalleled access to senior executives and policymakers, the columnist will have an opportunity to influence the debate about the industry’s future. The columnist will have razor-sharp analytical skills and be comfortable with numbers, as well as an ability to generate fresh ideas and explain complex concepts in a clear and engaging way.

The role will involve: Writing strong, original views on investment banking - both responding rapidly to breaking news and setting the agenda; developing contacts with senior executives, policymakers and analysts; working closely with other columnists in the United States and Asia to explore global themes; presenting ideas in fresh and interesting ways, such as developing Breakingviews’ popular interactive calculators; promoting views through public speaking, appearing on television/radio, and social media.

Reuters Breakingviews is seeking to appoint a columnist to lead coverage of macroeconomics, finance and business in Germany. The successful candidate will be capable of writing trenchant commentary on all the corporate, macro, political and markets themes affecting Germany - both responding to breaking news and setting the agenda proactively.

He/she will have a proven ability to write agenda-setting, insightful stories, with strong, original views. While the focus will be on Germany, the columnist must be able, if needed, to co-write stories on pan-European themes along with the other Breakingviews correspondents in the region.

Required Skills:

• Ideally a few years’ experience covering German economy and finance
• Strong English-writing skills
• Fluent German
• The candidate must be able to form original that will help shape Breakingviews' coverage of Germany, both on daily news and longer-term trends
