Barclays' ambitions take another step up

The UK lender is mulling a U.S. retail banking acquisition. The prospect of hotmoney taxes may have created an incentive to amass U.S. retail deposits following Barclays' Lehman buy. Either way, a community banking presence will help Barclays be taken seriously in Washington.
