The Asian insurer hopes to use a Hong Kong IPO to reduce its U.S. governmentowned parent’s stake below 50 pct. At the mooted $33 billion valuation, that looks unlikely. AIA’s freedom may depend on selling some shares more cheaply but the sacrifice looks worthwhile for AIG.
