The UK bank’s restructuring leaves retail holders of lower-ranking hybrid bonds potentially better off than higher-ranking hedge funds. It cushions pensioners from the worst of their mutually held bank’s woes. But it makes Co-op Bank a poor template for future bank bail-ins.
