The markets wanted Europe’s central bank chief to ride to the euro zone’s rescue, bazooka in hand. But JeanClaude Trichet has announced no new bondbuying plan. Optimists will say he’s being coy. But a better interpretation may be that he doesn’t want the ECB to be sucked in.
