Olivier Blanchard, who is retiring as chief economist at the IMF, has enhanced the institution’s tarnished reputation. The new UK government hopes Jim O’Neill, once the Goldman Sachs chief economist, will have a similar effect. Economics may be in flux, but still has some stars.
