Lenders from Italy’s Intesa Sanpaolo to Spain’s BBVA have boosted holdings of domestic government bonds, helped by cheap ECB funds. The exposure leaves them vulnerable if euro zone breakup fears return. And it makes completing Europe’s banking union and cross-border M&A harder.
