The boutique bank has been growing by leaps and bounds despite its Q1 blip. Now CEO Ralph Schlosstein wants Evercore to be in a league with older and bigger Lazard and Rothschild. Such competitive aspirations are laudable, but history suggests they can backfire on Wall Street.
