Say no to funds

As more money flows to an investment strategy, returns inevitably decline. That’s why Oaktree, for one, will raise just $4.5 bln, down from $11 bln, for its latest distressed debt fund. But publicly traded asset managers may not have the same luxury of turning down new funds.
