The case for jettisoning Lloyd Blankfein as CEO isn’t compelling. Goldman’s ethical lapses in the crisis seem more like misdemeanors than hanging offenses. But with the stock hovering at book value, the time’s right to split Blankfein’s roles and bring in an independent chairman.
