Plugging the SIV

The UK bank is pulling $35bn of SIV assets onto its own balance sheet. That s simpler than the proposed superSIV, especially if the assets are sound. Rivals are in a tricky spot. Not following is tantamount to admitting greater troubles in their SIVs, or their balance sheets.
