U.S. consumer prices rose 6.2% in October from a year ago, the biggest jump since 1990. That piles pressure on Fed Chair Jay Powell and peers, who insist cost pressures are transitory. More clarity about the trade-offs they face would be better than mantras and verbal gymnastics.
