The Japanese bank lost $3.8bn in the last quarter of 2008. The Lehman operations acquired in September were the main culprit, although market volatility, Iceland and Madoff didn t help. It is an inauspicious start to the Lehman deal. Nomura has yet to prove it bagged a bargain.
